Jan. 5, 2006 - ANDY SMITH 4-3 RAY CARVER in World Dart Tournament

Posted in darts

ANDY SMITH 4-3 RAY CARVER
(1-3, 3-2, 3-1, 1-3, 1-3, 3-2, 4-2)

ANDY SMITH came from behind to overcome American Ray Carver to move into round three of the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship.

The qualifier from Warwickshire ended Colin Monk's hopes in the first round and then hit back to knock out Carver in a ding-dong battle.

Carver won the first set 3-1, before Smith hit back to take the next two and move ahead in the match.

American star Carver lifted his game and took the next two sets 3-1 but Smith hit three maximum 180's to level matters and take the game into a decider.

Carver moved himself 2-1 up, but Smith crucially won the fourth leg and then took out a 136 finish to move ahead before taking the sixth leg with a 96 checkout to seal victory.

"It was hard work, a lot harder than I expected," admitted Smith. "I didn't start well and found myself a set down.

"It was see-saw, it went 2-2 and then 3-2 to him and he was on a shot to win it but I took out 120. It was a real tough game.

"I was really happy with the way I controlled myself, played steady and let him make the mistakes.

"I've had some hard games in my career and that is one of the hardest.

"It's not very often you're on TV and playing for such big money - I've won £8,500 now. I cut logs for a living and I'd have to cut a lot at £50 a ton to earn that much!"

Jan. 5, 2006 - GARY WELDING 4-2 JOHN KUCZYNSKI ending American Dreams!

Posted in darts

GARY WELDING 4-2 JOHN KUCZYNSKI
(1-3, 3-2, 0-3, 3-1, 3-1, 3-0)

GARY WELDING'S dream debut at the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship continued as he became the first player to move into the quarter-finals, with a 4-2 win over American John Kuczynski.

The qualifier from St Helens, making his first appearance at the Circus Tavern this year, knocked out world number one Colin Lloyd in the first round and ended Erwin Extercatte's hopes on Boxing Day.

He ended the American Dream in Purfleet by coming from 3-1 down to knock out Kuczynski on the same day that his compatriot Ray Carver was also eliminated.

Despite losing the opening leg, Kuczynski took the first set and led in the second before Welding managed to find his range on the doubles.

The 42-year-old levelled matters at 1-1 but was again wayward in the third as the American number one edged back in front.

Welding then won six legs from the next eight to move 3-2 up and put himself within touching distance of the last eight.

He then made Kuczynski pay for his own missed doubles in the sixth set, taking three straight legs to book his quarter-final place.

"It's a dream," said Welding. "I struggled a bit at times and I know I've got my 'A Game' in me somewhere.

"Eric Bristow said that sometimes you have to 'win ugly', but I'm in the quarter-finals now and confident of going even further."

Kuczynski admitted: "I missed too many doubles but I'll be back.

"I came here expecting to win it and I'm confident about my future."

Dec. 15, 2005 - World Series of Darts Predictions... for Round 2 Qualifiers.

Posted in darts

PS.  These American Darters here assume that a few more unknown American Players don't make their presence known for this tournament.  People such as Kreiger, Russell (who is top 5 by far if he shoots - American), Sawyer (excellent 01 player who plays daily although skips some tournaments), Peter Morrison, plus quite a few others.  The Americans positions probably will not be Johnny K or Darren Young but for simplicity sake we'll taker those 2 names.  I've even beaten Young multiple times and I'm not even going to put my own name in the mix.  The pressure is on and the pressure will be felt by Young and Johnny K to much.  Tommy Curtin could even slide into the mix if he is shooting enough to get steady darts.  Their will be a ton of people from US-Region 5 Playing in for spots from the most saturated area in the NorthEast.  Anyone could walk through and qualify from their and then pull an upset.  Coming from the area I know about a dozen shooters who can play 01 as good as anyone of the top 5 US rankings who aren't even their to pick from.

Colin Lloyd (1, Eng) V Darren Webster (32, Eng)

Dec. 15, 2005 - Recently was elimintaed from the Super A dart Playoffs

Posted in darts

Recently our dart team lost after having a personal best season winning 14 of 14 crickets and winning all 14 singles.  I think I won the MOP award this season for the 1st time in Super A.  It had been a while since I shot as much as I have recently.  Tom Sawyer's team knocked us out of the playoffs.  They had a solid team that ended our season.  We shouldn't have lost but my team still lacked the experience of playing a lot of playoff matches and bit the dust early.      It is probably the last time I'll ever go undefeated as my playing days are numbered.  I'm still thinking of attending the largest shoot in New England History at the World Series of Darts tournaments.  I don;t expect to win but I know I could knock of a few good players along the way.  We will be qualifying for the top 16 American players.  Their are quite a few I can beat out and I know If I shot well I could beat anyone that showed up atleast once during the qualifier.
